Having a powerful motherboard with more room for overclocking doesn’t mean pricey, this is proven by Asus P8Z77-V motherboard. If you want to push your processor to the limit, the board has its full capability to take you further.
The Asus P8Z77-V is design to support the latest Ivy Bridge processor from Intel and backward compatible with the previous Sandy Bridge processor in Socket 1155 package, if you still have one you can use it here. This makes it possible with the Z77 chipset with more advance feature than the older Z68 such as the HD4000 video and the LucidLogix Virtu MVP for unparalleled video display with super fast transcoding using the QuickSync.
Asus have eliminated some ports such as the eSATA and FireWire to reach the masses. However, some of the most convincing features are remain intact on the board such as the WiFi, Fan Xpert2, Fast USB 3.0 and full blown Video ports for you to have the freedom to choose your own display.

Looking At The Board And Its Connectivity
If you have seen the any of the Asus board before, the P8Z77-V is no different as it looks the same in their traditional black and blue color scheme. The board is furnished with huge heatsinks around its regulator circuitry and the chipset as well to withstand any heat during heavy operations.
The CPU socket is well spaced incase you’ll plan to use an oversized heatsink for overclocking purposes. The DIMM slots are beautifully color coded in black and blue for you to properly identify the correct memory pairing. It can support up to 32GB of DDR3 with maximum speed of 2600MHz.
The power connectors are strategically placed on the edge of the board for easy access and neat wiring. There are four SATA ports in 6GB/s and two in 3GB/s that supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 provided by the Z77 chipset with additional two SATA 6GB/s made possible by ASMedia controller.
Looking at the expansion slots you got two PCIe 3.0 in blue and white that will run in a single x16 or x8/x8 for dual while the third in black runs at x4 with only PCIe 2.0 support. There are two PCIe 2.0 x1 and two legacy PCI slots to complete the round up.
Finally on the back I/O panel, there’s a keyboard/mouse combo port is available, four fast USB 3.0 in blue and two USB 2.0 in black. As I mention earlier, the board is jam-packed with video port from DVI-D, D-Sub, HDMI to display port for you to enjoy anything you may wish to connect in it. Finishing it with RJ45 LAN port, Optical S/PDIF, WiFi connector for wireless and six audio ports.
Asus is the world’s first who introduces the Dual Intelligent Processor in two physical chip for maximum performance without wasting any amount of power. These are the TPU (TurboV Processing Unit) and the EPU (Energy Processing Unit).
With the new Dual Intelligent Processor 3, Asus includes the Smart DIGI+ power control with multiple digital voltage controllers for superb accuracy of voltage tuning for the CPU, iGPU and DRAM. As a result, you can increase the CPU speed up to 85 percent boost. Everybody knows that the CPU is a huge power sucker but, you can cut its power consumption into half using the Smart CPU Power profile feature.
The whole system will stay cool with the all new Fan Xpert 2 feature. You can install up to four auxiliary fans onboard that will automatically set the ideal fan speed of each in accordance with the system load for maximum coolness while keeping the noise level to minimum.
One of the most compelling features of the Asus P8Z77-V is the WiFi, although it cuts off the price luckily this one doesn’t remove for you to create your own network, so that it is possible now to connect your smartphone or iPad to for faster data access. Update your BIOS easily trough a simple press of a button and a user friendly UEFI BIOS is the world’s first graphical interface design that totally removes the pain in BIOS settings.
Some of the common features of the board are the Network iControl that will prioritize your data and network program, charge your iPhone/iPad 3x faster with USB Charger, the Al Suite II is a software that lets you control the whole system, MemOK! that ensures a quick boot whenever there’s a memory incompatibility, boost your system performance with its extreme overclocking capability with full stability using the Auto Tuning, experience the best surround quality with its 7.1 channel audio for a better home theater environment,
Overclocking the Asus P8Z77-V
So find out how well the ASUS P8Z77-V will perform it was tested using the Intel Core i7 3770K with 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz, WD Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX and SwifTech cooling system. By enabling the Auto Tuning you can easily reach a 4.4GHz speed that was 900MHz on top of 3.5GHz default frequency of the Core i7 3770K processor.
If you wish to push it further you can increase the multiplier at x47 while the Buss speed remains at 100MHz, you’ll arrive at 4.7GHz. This makes it possible by disabling the CPU spectrum and increases the CPU voltage by 1.275 then the PLL by 1.9v.
The board shows great stability at this point while you can still squeeze more juice out of it provided with a better cooling system. Having a 12-Phase Digital power design leaves you more room to overclock that will probably reach the 5GHz mark.
I can say without hesitation that the ASUS P8Z77-V is an enthusiast grade motherboard, it offers superb stability and reliability. However, you’ll need a better water cooling system if want to push it harder. Feature wise, the board has so much to bring on the table but, you can’t find the eSATA and FireWire to deliver the best price you can have.
The OC Tuner is very handy to those who refuse to do an overclock the hard way; this is the best tool you can depend on. Luckily the WiFi feature doesn’t eliminate that allows building your own LAN. The board is currently available for only $169 which brings an excellent value for those who find themselves in need of a superb performing board at a very affordable price.
